I went to Keystone State Park today, and let me just say that I am continually amazed by our state park system.
People say that there's "nothing interesting to do" in Western Pennsylvania, and really those people don't know what they're missing. Keystone State Park is one of the smaller state parks in our region, but I could probably spend a day simply exploring the park and taking part in the different recreational opportunities offered.
If you go a bit farther into the Laurel Highlands, you can visit places like Ohiopyle. Quite frankly, you could probably spend a week or two in Ohiopyle hiking, biking, white-water rafting, or even enjoying fine architecture (there are two Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the vicinity of Ohiopyle.)
And of course, there's the cluster of state parks I like to call the "Which Laurel is This? State Park Region." I say this because in a relatively close bit of land, there are Laurel Ridge, Laurel Hill, Laure Summit, and Laurel Mountai state parks. With their similar names, it's easy to get them confused, but each park offers all kinds of fun things to do.
Most people in high school want to get out of their hometown as quickly as possible. This is understandable, because quite frankly, I do too. But if you leave our region without fully exploring it and enjoying it first, you really are missing out.
i guess i’m missing out then.
personally, my favourite state parks are the sand dunes in michigan; i think there’s two or three. and especially petoskey.
Quite frankly, you’ll be amazed how boring the rest of the world is once you leave our lil’ ol’ area… My friends always WANT to go home with me on break b/c in our area we’re less than an hour away from mountains/state parks/Amish country/Pittsburgh and of course, we have a mall in our town, though it’s not the fanciest one around. But yeah. Our lil’ ol’ town isn’t too bad when you get out into the real world and think back on it.
