I had a lot of time to think last night. Honestly, I couldn't sleep. I kept asking myself all these "what if" questions. What if I had answered one question in my interview a bit differently. What if I had picked a different song for my auditions? What if Nathan had tried out? What if I weighed sixty less pounds.
I was feeling pretty crappy about myself. Trying to analyze what I did wrong, what I could have done better, how I could have possibly gotten drum major. And then I told myself to shutup.
I tried my best, and that's all I can really say.
I mentioned Kevin Rudy here before, and several times on my older blog. He was this past year's drum major of the PSU Blue Band. He's sort of my idol (PSU DM in general, but specifically Kevin Rudy, because he got it this year). But see the thing is, over the last year and a half, I've improved in my trumpet playing tenfold. And not getting drum major will allow me to continue to improve. With luck, I might even be able to get into marching band at college, not just some small school, but somewhere big like PSU, WVU, OSU, OU, who knows?
I mean, it's got to be cool being Kevin Rudy. During pregame, 100,000 screaming Penn State fans calm down for a few minutes to see him do the downfield strut, with a few front flips thrown into the mix, ending in the signature split. But I don't think I'd like being singled out like that. I'd much rather be in the Blue Band, under the direction of Kevin Rudy's sucessor, then be Kevin Rudy's successor.
We need to keep up the tradition. GS Trumpets go on to do great things. We currently have two alumni members who are in big college bands.
And besides, apparently, if I don't screw up horribly in the next year, I'll get to be commanding officer my senior year, which is not drum major, but according to Mrs. West, commanding officer will start to get the opportunity to conduct a little bit starting this season.
Anyway, peace out my friends. Enjoy life. If you discover one of your goals is unattainable, just change it.
yay for officers!
gs trumpets, keep representing
you shouldve taken that buttercup…
trumpets are better anyway. and i’ve said that HOW many times?
